The lights are on, trees decked and shops filled with festive window scenes – Cranleigh is more than ready for Christmas 2016.

We consider ourselves lucky to work in a village that becomes truly magical at December and the whole Roger Coupe team is looking forward to the upcoming festivities in Cranleigh and its surrounds.

Santa will be touring the village on his sleigh with Cranleigh Lions, handing out sweets and presents to youngsters, while playing carols. The group is also hosting the Big Cranleigh Christmas Rock Gig on Friday 16 December at the village hall, which promises to be a great festive fundraiser. More details here: Cranleigh Lions Events.

We’re also looking forward to the annual Christmas show at the Arts Centre. This year it’s The Wizard of Oz, which will bring a true touch of magic to the village when it plays out on 19 and 20 December.

The Arts Centre is hosting a wonderful craft fayre where you can pick up original, handmade gifts and presents. It’s running from 14 – 21 December. For more information visit: Cranleigh Arts Centre Craft Fayre.

Our office is looking very festive, and not just because of our window displays. We’ve teamed up with the Jigsaw School, which supports children with autism, to act as a collection point for their Christmas toy appeal. People can wrap up a toy and drop it at our High Street office until 19 December, which we will then donate to pupils before they break up.

Congratulations Sue!

Sue Whitaker, leader of 3^rd Cranleigh Guide unit, has been named the winner of our first ever Star Award.

Sue, who lives in the village, scooped the community star title after winning a public vote. As well as taking the title, she was presented with a hamper from Fortnum and Mason by Edward Norman, one of our partners.

Nominated by her husband James, Sue was described as “selfless, outstanding and dedicated” by those who voted for her. She has led the unit for 26 years organising fun, educational and inspiring activities for her young members every week, alongside putting together annual trips and camps.

We were absolutely blown away by the response we had for the community star title and would like to thank everyone who nominated and voted. All our seven finalists were more than worthy of the award and it was lovely to read the stories about how they have helped their communities.

Our awards will continue in the new year as we start searching for a star teacher. Parents, governors and the public are being urged to nominate teachers and school staff who go the extra mile for their pupils. Nominations for the star teacher title open on 6 January.
